Unterthal, Bad Grönenbach, Allgäu: A former cheese factory, built in 1950, now stands as a site of transformation. Once central to local dairy production, the structure is repurposed with a focus on preservation and adaptive reuse. Original structural elements are retained with minimal intervention, ensuring its unique character endures. The ground floor hosts workshops, small businesses, and communal spaces, while the upper levels are reimagined as residential units. A new central square connects commercial and social life, forming a vibrant community hub. Through reclaimed materials, thermal upgrades, and natural building techniques, the project achieves a low-impact, lasting renewal. This thoughtful reimagining honors the past while making room for the future.
